The first collective agreement for Tech.mt employees was signed between the General Workers’ Union (GWU) and the Foundation.

A first Collective Agreement has been signed between the General Workers’ Union and Tech.mt covering the period 2024–2029, benefiting employees in the grades of Senior Managers, Managers, Senior Coordinators, Coordinators, and Administrative Officers.

During the signing of the agreement, Riccarda Darmanin, Secretary of the Professionals, Finance and Services Section within the GWU, described the agreement as an important milestone both for the Foundation and for the Union, while expressing her satisfaction at seeing the Section continue to grow and strengthen its presence in strategic professional sectors such as technology.

She stated that Tech.mt plays a crucial role in the Maltese economy at a time when technology is driving development and innovation, and therefore it was important to reach an agreement that reflects the responsibilities and commitment of the employees.

Riccarda Darmanin thanked the members for the trust and support they showed the Union throughout the negotiation process, explaining that this trust was essential in achieving an agreement that offers better conditions and greater certainty for employees.

The agreement includes improvements in basic salaries, the introduction of new allowances recognising employees’ professional competencies, as well as a clearer structure for working conditions and benefits. Additional measures supporting work-life balance have also been introduced, including extra leave related to study and examinations.

Through this agreement, employees now have a comprehensive document outlining their rights, legal and disciplinary procedures, as well as family-friendly measures, ensuring greater transparency, stability, and peace of mind in the workplace.

The Section Secretary also thanked the management of Tech.mt, representatives from the Industrial Relations Unit, employees’ representative Karl Gauci, as well as Assistant Section Secretary Cynthia Schembri for the professional and respectful manner in which negotiations were conducted.

Also present for the signing were Permanent Secretary Godwin Mifsud, Chairman Mark Bugeja, and officials from the Ministry. The agreement was signed by Chief Executive Officer Wayne Grixti, Riccarda Darmanin, Assistant Secretary Cynthia Schembri, Karl Gauci, and Thomas Wood on behalf of the Industrial Relations Unit within the Office of the Prime Minister.
