GWU obtains recognition at Aquatic Resources Malta

Metal and Construction Section to represent employees for collective bargaining purposes

The Metal and Construction Section within the General Workers’ Union (GWU) has obtained official recognition to represent employees at Aquatic Resources Malta for collective bargaining purposes, following a verification process which confirmed that the Union represents the majority of eligible employees.

The process began after the GWU, on 10 July 2026, requested the Department of Industrial and Employment Relations (DIER) to grant it recognition as the union representing employees at Aquatic Resources Malta for collective bargaining purposes.

According to the verification report issued by the DIER on 27 August 2026, there was no other union representing these employees. The Department therefore proceeded with the verification process in accordance with the established procedures.

Through this process, it was confirmed that the GWU represents the majority of eligible employees at Aquatic Resources Malta, excluding those in the Executive and Senior Executive grades.

The GWU welcomes this outcome as an important step towards ensuring that employees at Aquatic Resources Malta have strong trade union representation and a collective voice in the workplace.

The Union will now move forward with the necessary work on behalf of the employees, with the aim of securing fair working conditions and safeguarding the quality of employment through social dialogue and collective bargaining.

The GWU remains committed to staying close to workers, defending their rights and interests, and working to further strengthen their conditions in the workplace.
