GWU Youths

About Us
In August 1944, less than a year after the establishment of the General Workers’ Union (GWU), a Youth Rally was held, which led to the creation of the Youth Workers’ Association. The first Executive Committee met in May 1945.

Today, this organisation is known as GWU Youths and forms an integral part of the GWU, representing young workers and students within the trade union movement.

Our Mission
GWU Youths works to:

  • Promote trade union awareness among young people
  • Support equality, fairness, and workers’ rights
  • Encourage active youth participation in social and workplace issues
  • Build a more sustainable and inclusive society

We believe young people are a driving force for positive change.

Membership
All GWU members under the age of 35 automatically form part of GWU Youths, ensuring strong representation of young voices within the union.

Representation & Engagement
In Malta, GWU Youths is actively involved in national and international youth and labour platforms. We are part of the Kunsill Nazzjonali taż-Żgħażagħ (KNŻ) and participate in international discussions and conferences, including those organised by the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC).
