As Workers’ Day approaches on May 1st, Valletta is set to host an event honouring the
resilience, rights, and achievements of workers over the years. Organized by the General Workers’ Union (GWU), the largest trade union in Malta, the celebration invites workers and community members to commemorate both past and future strides in the labour movement.
This annual occasion marks not only a reflection on historical challenges but also an
opportunity to unite and focus on upcoming opportunities. On this day, GWU central
administration, Section Secretaries, and other union officials will gather in Valletta to
emphasize the importance of workers in shaping Malta’s progress.
“Workers play a vital role in the growth of our society,” a GWU spokesperson said. “We
encourage all our members to join us this year to celebrate the worker’s contribution to daily life and the quality of life they deserve. Together, we will remember the sacrifices of our predecessors, who fought for freedom, rights, and improved working conditions.”
Looking ahead, the GWU reaffirmed its commitment to improving the labour market by fostering social dialogue, cooperation, and progress alongside governments and institutions.
The union aims to achieve fair wages, enhanced working conditions, and job security for all workers in Malta.
Join the General Workers’ Union in Valletta on May 1st and be part of this significant day as the country celebrates its workforce and builds a stronger, fairer future. Together, we shape progress
