GWU and the Commission for the Promotion of Integral Human Development explore opportunities for collaboration

Artificial Intelligence, social justice and the use of social media among the topics discussed during the meeting

The Central Administration of the General Workers’ Union (GWU) held a meeting with the Executive Chairperson of the Commission for the Promotion of Integral Human Development, Mark Cachia. The Commission was established by the Maltese Episcopal Conference last June.

During the meeting, both parties agreed on the importance of maintaining ongoing communication and exploring opportunities for collaboration on matters of mutual interest.

GWU Secretary General Kevin Camilleri remarked that meetings of this kind are valuable as they create space for dialogue between the GWU and the Church on the realities and challenges facing society.

“It is important that we continue to build collaboration with this Commission, particularly on topics such as Artificial Intelligence, social justice and the use of social media,” Camilleri said.

He also noted that it is positive to see the Church continuing to reach out to different entities and organisations within society, listening to their views and maintaining an open dialogue on issues that directly affect people’s lives.

For his part, the Commission’s Executive Chairperson, Mark Cachia, emphasised the importance of engaging with various stakeholders to strengthen communication and broaden the Commission’s work across different sectors of society.

Cachia also expressed his willingness for the Commission to work closely with the General Workers’ Union, including through initiatives and projects that could be developed jointly.

GWU Deputy Secretary General Kevin Abela also attended the meeting alongside Secretary General Kevin Camilleri.
