“Our society has developed very quickly. I remember the time before 2013, when the
statistics showed that the percentage of women in the workplace was one of the lowest in 27 countries. Over time, we have risen because we have been given opportunities”.”
GWU General Secretary Josef Bugeja said this today during a discussion event with the
theme ‘Challenging Stereotypes, Creating Opportunities’ organised by the Labour Party and Labour Women in Birżebbuġa.
Bugeja pointed out that one should not look at the gender of the person, but that the biggest challenge we have is the mentality of our society.
He also said: “Legislation is there to enable inclusion in the workplace, but the notion
discourages people from venturing into certain new areas of the economy.” He reiterated that women have always been a pillar of society and that they have contributed to the growth of today’s economy.
