Labour Party Presidential Candidate Visits General Workers’ Union
to Discuss Workers’ Rights

Norma Saliba, the Labour Party (PL) candidate for president, visited the General Workers’ Union (GWU) headquarters today, engaging in discussions about key issues affecting the nation’s workforce. Saliba met with the union’s administration to address the challenges workers face and to discuss ways to improve working conditions and wages.

During the meeting, Saliba emphasized the importance of the visit, given her position as a representative of the workers’ party. “As a candidate for the Labor Party, it was necessary for me to visit the workers’ building, the General Workers’ Union—the trade union that feels the pulse of the worker and jumps to defend them,” Saliba said, expressing her commitment to the needs of the workforce.

The discussion also focused on fostering collaboration between the Labor Party and the union to create policies aimed at improving workers’ livelihoods. Saliba’s visit highlights her dedication to ensuring that workers remain a priority in her campaign, reinforcing the PL’s historical connection to the working class.

Josef Bugeja, the General Secretary of the GWU, stressed the importance of dialogue
between political leaders and labour organizations. “Through dialogue, a solid relationship is built, where ideas and proposals for good measures that continue to make a difference in people’s lives are discussed,” Bugeja noted. His statement underlines the GWU’s role in shaping policies that support workers’ rights.

Saliba’s visit to the GWU reflects her determination to engage with key stakeholders in the labour sector and her continued focus on addressing the challenges faced by workers across the country. Both sides agreed that further discussions and collaboration are essential to developing effective solutions that improve working conditions and advance workers’ rights.

The meeting marks a significant step in strengthening the relationship between the PL and the GWU, and it is expected that this dialogue will play a crucial role in shaping future policies aimed at benefiting the country’s workforce.
