The Professionals, Finance and Services Section within the General Workers’ Union has registered an Industrial Dispute on behalf of its warranted non-academic professional members at MCAST.
The Union explained that negotiations for its first Collective Agreement at MCAST were concluded several weeks ago. Throughout the process, the Union received assurances that the agreement would be signed within a short timeframe.
Despite these assurances, the process is taking longer than expected. To date, no clear signing date has been communicated for the collective agreement.
This situation is creating justified frustration among the members concerned, particularly since there is already a verbal agreement on the new financial package from which they are expected to benefit.
The Union stressed that it cannot continue waiting indefinitely while its members remain without the necessary certainty regarding when the new agreement will come into force.
Consequently, the GWU has officially registered an industrial dispute and issued directives to its members, which will remain in effect until a concrete date is provided for the signing of the collective agreement.
