GWU obtains recognition of ‘civilian employees and administrative staff’ in the Agency of Corrections

The General Workers’ Union (GWU) has obtained the main recognition of the ‘civilian and administrative staff’ working at the Correctional Services Agency (CSA). This recognition was granted after the verification process with DIER revealed that the majority of workers are members of the union

These workers perform very important work within the Correctional Services Agency, and the union’s first priority will be to ensure that these workers are also covered by a collective bargaining agreement. To date, several of these workers have individual contracts with the agency and have not been union members.

GWU already has recognition of correctional officers within the agency, and in May 2021, the first collective bargaining agreement was signed for these employees, in which they received significant increases in their financial income for the first time.
