Humanitarian assistance, human rights protection and employment opportunities in Malta for Palestinian workers discussed

The General Workers’ Union (GWU) reaffirmed its solidarity with the Palestinian people and its commitment to peace, justice and the protection of human rights during a meeting with the Palestinian Ambassador to Malta, His Excellency Fadi Hanania.

During the meeting, held at the GWU headquarters in Valletta, discussions focused on the situation in Palestine, the humanitarian challenges facing the Palestinian people and the importance of translating international solidarity into concrete assistance.

GWU Secretary General Kevin Camilleri emphasised that solidarity with the Palestinian people must go beyond words and be reflected in tangible actions that make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by the conflict.

He stated that the GWU, as an organisation dedicated to safeguarding workers’ rights and dignity, firmly believes in the need for just and sustainable solutions that guarantee peace, security and respect for fundamental human rights.

Camilleri also stressed the importance of ensuring continued humanitarian and medical assistance to the Palestinian people, particularly those in vulnerable situations.

Employment Opportunities in Malta for Palestinian Workers

Another important topic discussed during the meeting was the possibility of creating employment opportunities in Malta for Palestinian workers.

GWU Deputy Secretary General Kevin Abela stated that such an initiative could benefit both the Maltese economy and Palestinian workers.

He explained that access to regular employment under decent working conditions could help address the needs of the Maltese labour market while providing Palestinian workers with opportunities to build a more stable and secure future for themselves and their families.

Abela also highlighted the humanitarian dimension of this proposal, stressing that creating employment opportunities could serve as a concrete expression of solidarity with individuals facing difficult circumstances due to the situation in their homeland.

Palestinian Ambassador Expresses Appreciation for the Support and Solidarity of the Maltese People

For his part, Ambassador Fadi Hanania expressed his appreciation for the support and solidarity shown by the Maltese people towards Palestine, emphasising that such support is of great importance to the Palestinian people during this difficult period.

He called for stronger international efforts in favour of peace, justice and the protection of human rights, while highlighting the need for continued efforts towards achieving a just and lasting solution for the Palestinian people.

The Ambassador also stressed the importance of ensuring that expressions of solidarity are accompanied by concrete assistance, particularly in the humanitarian and healthcare sectors, as well as closer cooperation between organisations and institutions.

“Together, we can make a difference,” Ambassador Hanania stated, thanking the GWU for its support and willingness to continue contributing to initiatives benefiting the Palestinian people.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the GWU reiterated its commitment to remaining a strong voice for peace, human dignity and international solidarity, while supporting concrete initiatives that can offer hope, protection and better opportunities for the Palestinian people.
