Yoga session for employees accompanied by fundraising initiatives in support of people in need
The General Workers’ Union (GWU) organised an activity for its employees to mark World Mental Health Day and Pink October, highlighting the importance of physical and mental wellbeing, prevention and solidarity with individuals who need community support.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness of the importance of employees taking care of their health while making a meaningful contribution to social causes.
As part of the programme, a yoga session was organised and led by GWU colleague Kendrick Bondin.
The session provided employees with an opportunity to dedicate time to relaxation and personal wellbeing. Through gentle exercises, simple movements and relaxation techniques, participants were encouraged to focus on mental wellbeing, stress reduction and maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
This initiative reflects the GWU’s ongoing commitment to promoting workplaces that prioritise not only physical health but also mental wellbeing and employees’ overall quality of life.
Following the session, a fundraising activity was organised in connection with Pink October. Through contributions from employees, the initiative aimed to raise funds in support of the non-governmental organisation Marigold, which assists individuals facing difficult circumstances.
At the same time, the GWU is also supporting the “Give a Bra” campaign, an initiative aimed at collecting new or gently used bras in good condition for distribution to women living in shelters across Malta. The campaign also provides an opportunity for individuals to contribute financially towards the purchase of new bras.
The two fundraising initiatives are being organised separately to ensure that each contribution is directed towards its intended purpose.
At the end of the activity, employees were treated to specially prepared sweet treats, kindly provided by Croce Bonaci.
Through these initiatives, the GWU continues to emphasise that employee wellbeing and social responsibility must go hand in hand. Alongside its ongoing work to protect workers’ rights and improve working conditions, the Union remains committed to fostering a culture of solidarity, awareness and mutual support.
