New incentive agreement for employees in the Engineering Department at Malta Freeport Terminals Ltd.

The Maritime, Transport and Aviation Section of the General Workers’ Union (GWU), together with Malta Freeport Terminals Ltd, has reached an agreement on a new incentive mechanism for employees within the Engineering Department, despite the current collective agreement remaining in force until 2028.

The agreement was achieved following several months of constructive discussions and goodwill between both parties, resulting in a realistic and fair mechanism that recognises the work, dedication and contribution of employees in this key department.

The new incentive mechanism will take effect retrospectively from the beginning of this year and, when compared with the incentive previously applicable for the same period, will provide employees with an increase of more than four times the amount previously paid.

The Maritime, Transport and Aviation Section extends its appreciation to the officials of Malta Freeport Terminals Ltd for their collaboration and commitment throughout the negotiations that led to this agreement. The Section also thanks the employees’ committee for its continued dedication and tireless work in representing the interests of its colleagues.

Section Secretary Jurgen Azzopardi said that this agreement is a clear example of what can be achieved through constructive social dialogue.

“This new incentive mechanism provides tangible recognition of the commitment, professionalism and valuable contribution of the employees within the Engineering Department. We now look forward to its effective implementation, ensuring that workers receive the recognition they deserve for their dedication and contribution to the company’s success,” concluded Jurgen Azzopardi.
