Human Rights Commission among key topics in GWU meeting with Minister Rosianne Cutajar

Minister for Equality and Civil Rights, Rosianne Cutajar, emphasised the importance of establishing Malta’s first Human Rights Commission, describing her meeting with the General Workers’ Union (GWU) as a constructive discussion during which several issues of national importance were addressed.

“We met with members of the General Workers’ Union in a constructive meeting where we discussed a number of important topics, including the proposed legislation that will pave the way for the establishment of Malta’s first Human Rights Commission,” Minister Cutajar said.

The meeting formed part of a series of discussions the GWU’s central administration is holding with Cabinet Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries.

Speaking after the meeting, GWU Secretary General Kevin Camilleri said that the discussion took place in a spirit of open and constructive dialogue, during which a number of issues of mutual interest to both the Ministry and the Union were explored.

Camilleri noted that the GWU looks forward to strengthening its collaboration with the Ministry to continue advancing the protection of human rights, equality, and the well-being of workers.

Also representing the GWU at the meeting were Deputy Secretary General Kevin Abela, Government, Public Entities and Health Section Secretary Kendrick Bondin, and International Secretary Robert Micallef.
