GWU salutes Enemalta employees for their dedication during the extreme heatwave

The General Workers’ Union (GWU), through its Chemical and Energy Section, has expressed its appreciation for the dedication and commitment shown by Enemalta employees who have been working tirelessly throughout the current period of extreme temperatures to ensure a stable electricity supply to households and businesses across Malta.

On Thursday morning, the Secretary of the GWU Chemical and Energy Section, Rita Dimech, visited employees at Enemalta’s new Distribution Centre in Naxxar, where she witnessed first-hand the demanding conditions in which they are carrying out their duties and the professionalism with which they continue to serve the country.

Speaking during the visit, Dimech praised the employees for their unwavering commitment, noting that they work around the clock to ensure that the public continues to receive an uninterrupted electricity service despite the exceptionally high demand brought about by the heatwave.

“There are simply no words that can adequately express our gratitude for the dedication and sacrifices made by these workers. Their commitment is essential to keeping the country running, particularly at a time when electricity demand has reached unprecedented levels,” she said.

During the visit, Aldo Saliba, one of Enemalta’s employees, explained that work on the electricity distribution network is continuing without interruption thanks to the efforts of the workforce and the company’s ongoing investment in its infrastructure. He highlighted that the recent surge in electricity demand posed a significant challenge, while noting that the new Distribution Centre in Naxxar forms part of a wider investment programme that also includes the ongoing project in Siġġiewi.

The GWU thanked all Enemalta employees for their professionalism, resilience and continuous commitment in delivering an essential service to the Maltese people. The Union also reaffirmed its support for ensuring that these workers continue to receive the resources, protection and recognition they deserve for the vital role they perform every day.
