The Union insists that existing benefits must be safeguarded and that a fair solution must be reached on arrears and outstanding conditions
The General Workers’ Union (GWU) has formally notified RSSL (Resource Support & Services Ltd.) of its intention to order industrial actions, following strong feedback received from its members (ex-Airmalta employees) regarding the proposed agreement.
The GWU convened an information meeting with its members, during which the content and conditions of the proposed agreement were explained and discussed in detail. Following this meeting, members clearly expressed their position that the proposed agreement cannot be accepted in its current form.
The GWU has reiterated to the company that the proposals currently being put forward remain far removed from those presented by the Union. This position has been consistently maintained throughout the discussions, with the GWU continuing to insist that the issues raised by its members must be addressed properly and fairly.
Serious concerns have also been raised regarding benefits and conditions already contained in the existing Collective Agreement and which are currently in force. The GWU is concerned about proposals that could result in the reduction or removal of these benefits and conditions, despite the existence of clear documentation governing them and specifying that existing monetary benefits should not be reduced or withdrawn.
Another important issue concerns arrears. The company is not considering the payment of arrears covering a period of three and a half years, although the Collective Agreement has expired and the matter has remained pending throughout this period.
The GWU has raised these concerns with the company on several occasions, including during industrial dispute proceedings before the Director for Industrial and Employment Relations (DIER). Despite this, the key issues remain unresolved.
In light of the position expressed by its members, the GWU has formally notified the company that, unless a satisfactory response is received addressing the outstanding issues, the Union will order industrial actions involving all employees covered by this Collective Agreement.
The GWU also reserves the right to further escalate the matter through the appropriate legal and industrial channels.
At the same time, the GWU remains available for further discussions and negotiations with the company and will continue working towards a fair and satisfactory solution that safeguards the rights, benefits and working conditions of all employees concerned.
