Today is a day dedicated to all women, a day when we not only remember how important women are in our society, but we celebrate the achievements they have made. On this day, we remember how much women’s roles have changed over time and the importance they hold both in the workplace, in our community and in our families.
The GWU has always believed in the full participation of women and works to remove any abuse or obstacle. Indeed, at European level within the ETUC, we as GWU have actively participated in the dialogue on the Pay Transparency directive. It is not acceptable that there are still those who pay women less than men because of their gender. This is discrimination that must stop as soon as possible, because everyone should be treated equally regardless of their gender. So we are proud that where we are represented, this abuse has been addressed because wages are part of the collective agreement. Every member has a copy of the agreement to know their wages according to their work.
Much has been done over time to end discrimination against women and people and much remains to be done on the website Gender Pay Gap and GWU will remain a social partner pushing for these changes to take place without further delay. One of the GWU’s values is equality and so we are working to treat everyone equally.
Finally the GWU would like to wish all women a wonderful Women’s Day.
