Pilots across several European countries choose the GWU to represent them
The General Workers’ Union (GWU), through its Maritime and Aviation Section, has signed a new Collective Agreement with Challenge Air Cargo Limited, bringing substantial improvements to the working conditions and employment benefits of the company’s pilots.
The Secretary of the GWU Maritime and Aviation Section, Jurgen Azzopardi, explained that this agreement follows the GWU’s official recognition as the trade union representing the company’s pilots.
He emphasised that the pilots, who are across several European countries, chose to place their trust in the GWU to represent them, safeguard their rights and interests, and work towards better employment conditions.
Azzopardi stated that the new agreement, covering the period 2026–2029, reflects the GWU’s continued commitment to improving working conditions within the aviation sector. Among the key achievements are salary increases, improvements in working hours, and additional benefits that will further strengthen the pilots’ employment conditions.
He thanked the pilots’ representative committee and the company’s management for their cooperation and commitment throughout the negotiation process, which led to the successful conclusion of the agreement.
The Collective Agreement was signed at the GWU headquarters in Valletta. Section Secretary Jurgen Azzopardi signed on behalf of the GWU, in the presence of the pilots’ representatives, Philip Holem and John Dooley.
On behalf of Challenge Air Cargo Limited, the agreement was signed by Group CEO Yosi Shoukroun and Group CFO Daniel Ganem.
The GWU reaffirms its commitment to promoting fair working conditions, adequate wages, and improved employment benefits for the workers it represents, while continuing to strengthen social dialogue and industrial relations within the aviation sector.
