GWU highlights need for new law for platform workers

Among the proposals for the 2023 budget aimed at improving working conditions, the union stresses the need to introduce a new law that covers and protects platform workers. It said these people cannot even be considered workers because they are not covered by an employment contract or labour law.

“We suggest either enacting a new law or amending the current law to give these people the status of workers so they can benefit from the basic conditions. Moreover, if they are recognized as workers, they can be protected from any abuse,” GWU added.

“It is also necessary to introduce a separate law on the right to disconnect which covers all aspects of working hours and family life,” the union said.
