The General Workers’ Union through the Professionals, Finances and Services Section obtained the sole recognition of the workers in the MCESD. This recognition was given after the verification process by the DIER where it concluded that the majority of workers are paid members of the GWU.
This exercise could be carried out after the Department was informed that there is currently no other union that represents the workers employed by the said entity.
Now the next step is to start negotiations with the management for a new Collective Agreement where the aim is to improve the conditions of these workers including the financial package. The Secretary of the Section thanked the workers for the trust they showed when they approached the GWU to improve their situation at the workplace.
