The GWU orders industrial action at the Energy and Water Agency (EWA) regarding the collective
agreement

The Government and Public Entities Section of the General Workers’ Union (GWU) has announced a series of industrial action at the Energy and Water Agency (EWA) due to a disagreement over the collective agreement.

This industrial action is over working conditions and in particular the review of the financial package to reflect the 2024 cost of living adjustment.

The GWU had already begun discussions on the collective agreement in April 2022, while it had declared industrial action on 21 August last year. On 25 September last year, the EWA management agreed in a mediation meeting before the DIER to examine a financial proposal for the collective agreement and submit it to the GWU. A meeting between the two parties then also took place on 12 October.

After discussing management’s proposal internally, the Government and Public Entities Section of the GWU asked management to review these terms, including reviewing the financial package to reflect the -2024 cost of living adjustment.

However, as no agreement has yet been reached with management, the GWU has no option but to declare industrial action, which will remain in force indefinitely until the desired developments occur. With this action, which will take effect from Wednesday 15 November, members are instructed not to respond to any communication, whether by telephone, email or otherwise.
