The principle of Equal Pay for Work of Equal Value now applies to care workers at Healthmark Care Services Ltd. and Support Services Ltd.

This principle has come into effect following several discussions and negotiations with key stakeholders, reaffirming the commitment to social justice and equality in the workplace.

The Government, Public Entities, and the Health Section within the GWU have worked diligently to ensure that this law is implemented. This complex process involved ongoing commitment, dialogue, and meetings with all parties involved.

“After extensive discussions and sensitive negotiations, an agreement was reached that acknowledges the rights of care workers who have performed the same duties as their counterparts in the sector but under different conditions and pay. These workers are receiving the compensation they are owed according to the law and the principles of equality,” said Secretary Kendrick Bondin.

This outcome reflects the dedication of the GWU, the companies involved, and the Government to create a fairer and more equitable working environment. The principle of Equal Pay for Work of Equal Value is not just a concept; it represents a commitment that every worker performing identical duties should receive equal recognition and pay.

The Section expressed satisfaction that through collective efforts, it has significantly improved the working conditions for these care workers, who play a vital role in the care of clients, patients, and residents in our society.

“Since I became Secretary of this Section, it has always been my dream for private care workers employed in government entities to receive the same equity as other government workers. They have consistently carried out their duties with great dedication. This outcome is a clear testament to the fact that when we collaborate, we can achieve meaningful results that enhance the lives of workers. The principle of Equal Pay for Work of Equal Value not only ensures fairness but also underscores the value of workers who perform essential roles in society. We are witnessing better conditions and equality for care workers because we have always believed they deserve proper recognition,” concluded Secretary Bondin.
