GWU meets with Minister Anton Refalo

The General Workers’ Union (GWU) continued its series of meetings with Cabinet Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries as part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening dialogue on Malta’s economic and social development, particularly on issues that directly affect workers.

Yesterday, the GWU’s new administration met with the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Anton Refalo, at the Ministry, where a number of matters relating to these sectors were discussed.

Speaking after the meeting, GWU Secretary General Kevin Camilleri described the discussion as highly positive, saying it helped identify a number of areas where both sides can work together, including on more challenging issues. Camilleri noted the Ministry’s openness to cooperation, which creates opportunities for closer collaboration in the future. He reiterated that the GWU and the Ministry will continue working together in the interests of workers employed in these sectors.

For his part, Minister Anton Refalo said the meeting with the GWU was held in a cordial atmosphere and focused on issues of significant importance to Maltese and Gozitan workers.

“We also identified a number of areas where we can work together for the benefit of the sector, and we must continue working for the good of all the Maltese and Gozitan people,” said Minister Refalo.

Also present on behalf of the GWU were President Jason Deguara, Deputy Secretary General Kevin Abela, and the Union’s Gozo representative, Jonathan J. Vella.

The GWU’s series of meetings with Cabinet Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries is expected to continue over the coming days.
