More than 2,000 families are set to benefit from a newly signed collective agreement
between the General Workers’ Union (GWU) and Support Services Ltd., a company
providing health and care services across Malta.
The agreement, signed by the GWU’s Government, Public Entities and Health
Section, covers a wide range of positions within Support Services Ltd. and
introduces improved conditions related to leave, sick leave, recognition of years of
service, disciplinary procedures, and more.
Covering the period from 2026 to 2030, the agreement is the result of proactive
efforts by the GWU section, which began negotiations well ahead of the expiry of the
previous agreement to ensure continued benefits for workers.
“Support Services Ltd. has worked with us in a truly professional manner to achieve
the results we are signing today,” said Section Secretary Kendrick Bondin. “This
agreement strengthens workers’ rights and operations within the company, with the
main goal of safeguarding their rights in line with their responsibilities. More than
2,000 families will benefit from this collective agreement.”
Bondin also expressed gratitude to the union’s representatives, highlighting the
strong presence of women on the committee, and thanked all members who
participated in the process. He emphasized the union’s commitment to further
strengthening workers’ rights and expressed hope that employees working across
various government entities will also benefit from the government’s wage increases,
as reflected in the new legislation.
The agreement was signed on behalf of GWU by Section Secretary Kendrick
Bondin, Assistant Secretary Lawrence Bugeja, and shop stewards Josephine Borg
and Nanette Caruana. Representing Support Services Ltd. were CEO Charlotte Sant
Portanier, General Manager Charlo Farrugia, Operations Manager Matthew Muscat,
and Human Resources Manager Raisa Rizzo.
