The General Workers’ Union (GWU) has noted with satisfaction that the number of people in employment in Malta has increased the most in the EU and that Malta is among the countries with the highest economic growth in the Eurozone – this was announced by the EU’s statistical office, Eurostat.
In a statement, GWU Secretary General Josef Bugeja said, “I am satisfied with the fact that we see that Malta has recorded the largest increase in the number of employed people among all European Union countries compared to the previous three months.
“Despite the fact that as a country we also have our challenges, at the same time we see that our economy continues its strong recovery, including in manufacturing, aviation, services and tourism.”
He said that one of the challenges is precisely the education process of our country, which must ensure continuous training and updating for the workers we have today and will need tomorrow, continuous training throughout their lives, because in today’s world of work, the quality of work is crucial for our country to remain competitive and increase prosperity.
“We believe and will do our best to ensure that as social partners we work in synergy with the government to continue to provide greater security to workers and their families,” concluded the Secretary General.
