The principle of Equal Pay for Work of Equal Value has been implemented for Mediclean JV workers

The Hospitality and Food Section of GWU is pleased to announce that, due to its commitment to social justice and workplace equality, the Equal Pay for Work of Equal Value law has been implemented for the cleaners at Mater Dei Hospital who are employed by Mediclean JV.

This principle has always been a core belief of the GWU, and it has worked for years to see it established as law. This law marks a significant step toward justice and equality for workers who have faced pay disparities for many years despite performing similar work.

“After several meetings, justice is being served for these workers. Transparency in wages eliminates uncertainty, mitigates perceptions of injustice, and reduces the likelihood of individual claims. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved, Mediclean JV administration, for their cooperation in resolving this matter,” said Kevin Abela, Section Secretary.

These workers will now receive back pay, as they perform the same work under the same conditions as others in the same sector.
