PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY GENERAL WORKERS’ UNION GWU secures an advantageous financial package for Carlo Gavazzi workers

The General Workers’ Union (GWU) has reached an agreement in principle with Carlo Gavazzi Ltd. on a financial package for the employees who will be made redundant. The agreement, which has been met with great satisfaction by the workers, ensures appropriate compensation for them and their families during this difficult time.

The deal was secured following intensive, difficult, and lengthy negotiations led by GWU Secretary General Josef Bugeja, and the Secretary of the Technology, Electronics, and Communications Section, David Darmanin, together with the Deputy Secretary of the same Section, Jason Gatt, and the company’s management.

After informing the workers of this successful outcome, Section Secretary David Darmanin stated, “I am very pleased that the workers have welcomed this agreement so positively. Now that the main principles are agreed upon, we expect the agreement to be formally signed in the coming days. I must thank the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin (UĦM), who sat with us at the same negotiating table. The collaboration was total, and we worked together for the benefit of all the workers.”

In the coming months, as the redundancies start to take effect, the GWU will continue to assist these workers to reintegrate into the workforce by helping them find employment with local companies that are seeking an experienced workforce.
The GWU remains committed to defending the rights and interests of workers in all circumstances.
