New Collective Agreement Signed for STMicroelectronics Employees

A new four-year collective agreement has been signed for employees of STMicroelectronics (Malta) Ltd., marking a significant milestone in worker rights and professional development.

The agreement, spearheaded by the General Workers’ Union (GWU), aims to enhance
working conditions while introducing specialized training programs, as the company
prepares for an advanced technology project integrating automation, digital, and robotic equipment.

The General Secretary of the GWU emphasized the importance of this agreement, noting that it provides workers with essential training opportunities, ensuring they are equipped with the skills necessary to meet the demands of evolving technology. David Darmanin, Secretary of the Technology, Electronics, and Communication Section, expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed to this negotiation, acknowledging the dedication of committee members and employees.

STMicroelectronics General Manager Laurent Filipozzi highlighted that the agreement is crucial for both employees and the company’s future. Alongside improved salaries and benefits, the initiative focuses on specialized worker training, fostering skill development and reinforcing the company’s competitive position in the industry. Human Resources Director Muhittin Ugurludemir echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the long-term benefits of the collaboration between the company and GWU.

Representing the workforce, Charles Seracino and Jason Gatt shared their enthusiasm for the agreement’s signing, noting that employee training is a central component in preparation for upcoming technological transformations. The latest project combines advanced automation, precision engineering, and specialized expertise, ensuring the production of high-quality semiconductors.

The collective agreement was formally signed by representatives of GWU and
STMicroelectronics, including Josef Bugeja, David Darmanin, Laurent Filipozzi, and several shop stewards, solidifying their commitment to a progressive and well-supported workforce.
