The General Workers’ Union (GWU) welcomes the adoption by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) plenary of this strategic opinion on the Battery Booster Strategy, led by rapporteur Jason Deguara, who also serves as GWU President.
This important step marks progress towards strengthening Europe’s industrial base while ensuring that sustainability, innovation and quality jobs remain at the core of the green transition.
The GWU notes with satisfaction the strong emphasis placed on high-quality “Made in Europe” products, fair competition, and the need to link public investment to decent work, social rights, and full compliance with EU standards.
The Union also supports the call for inclusive growth across the battery value chain, ensuring that workers, SMEs and local industries benefit from new opportunities, alongside large-scale industrial developments.
GWU reiterates that Europe’s competitiveness must go hand in hand with strong worker protections, health and safety at work, social dialogue, and investment in skills, as the sector continues to expand.
The Union congratulates Jason Deguara on his leadership of this strategic opinion, developed while serving as GWU International Secretary. It reaffirms her commitment to supporting policies that promote sustainable growth and quality employment for workers throughout Europe.
