GWU Signs New Collective Agreement for Arka Foundation Workers Covering 2026–2029

In recent days, the General Workers’ Union (GWU) signed a new collective agreement for employees of the Arka Foundation, covering the years 2026 to 2029. This marks the second agreement for the Gozo-based entity, and it brings with it salary increases, improved working conditions, and additional benefits for its staff.

The Arka Foundation provides residential and respite services for persons with disabilities through three homes: Dar Arka, Dar il-Ġublew tal-Ħniena, and Dar il-Madonna ta’ Pinu.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the GWU by Kendrick Bondin, Secretary of the GWU Government, Public Entities and Health Section, Assistant Secretary Lawrence Bugeja, and Gozo Representative Jonathan Vella.

Representing the Arka Foundation were Director Fr Jimmy Xerri, General Manager and legal representative Marco Formosa, and Paul Buttigieg from the Diocese of Gozo.

Commitment to Workers and Social Care

Speaking after the signing, Secretary Kendrick Bondin explained that the agreement was finalized ahead of the expiration of the current one. He praised the goodwill shown by the management in reaching a deal that benefits union-member employees.

“This is the second collective agreement for the Arka Foundation. We are committed to strengthening this entity, which does vital work with persons with disabilities and their families. I encourage the public to support the Foundation through donations,” Bondin said.

General Manager Marco Formosa expressed satisfaction with the agreement, noting that it includes salary increases and improved allowances for staff. “We appeal to the public—those who can—to support the Foundation so we can continue our work in service of persons with disabilities and their families,” he said.
