The General Workers’ Union (GWU), through its Government, Public Entities and
Health Section, has successfully obtained official recognition as the representative
body for employees at Pax et Bonum Care Home.
This milestone was achieved following a membership drive in which the majority of
employees joined the GWU. A verification process was subsequently requested from
the Department of Industrial and Employment Relations (DIER), which confirmed
that the majority of the care home’s workforce are now union members.
Commenting on the development, Section Secretary Kendrick Bondin stated that the
next step will be to initiate negotiations for a collective agreement. The aim is to
improve working conditions for the employees, including enhancements to their
financial package.
