Floriana, Malta – Officials from Caritas Augsburg of Germany recently paid a
courtesy visit to the General Workers’ Union (GWU) in Malta. The visit served as an
opportunity for GWU to showcase its initiatives and operations in the field of foreign
workers, providing insights that could inspire similar practices back in Augsburg.
Discussions emphasized the importance of contracts that ensure fair treatment and
protection for foreign workers.
Caritasverband für die Diözese Augsburg, founded in 1921, is a Catholic
organization dedicated to improving the lives of people within the Diocese of
Augsburg. Its services include consultancy on employment permits for adults,
assistance for individuals experiencing homelessness, and other initiatives that
facilitate reintegration into society.
During this meeting, GWU Deputy Kevin Camii welcomed Caritas Augsburg
representatives Martin Gaertner and Steffen Huber. The discussions aimed at
fostering mutual understanding and exchanging strategies to enhance support for
foreign workers and vulnerable populations.
The collaboration marks a meaningful exchange of ideas between two
organizations dedicated to social justice and workers’ rights. It highlights
the shared commitment to improving conditions for workers while
addressing broader societal challenges.
